Cobb County Hospital: Former Employees Accused Of Stealing Urn, Dumping The Ashes Of A Baby
Two former hospital employees are accused of stealing an urn while they were at work.
Anilus and Rosnie Frederic are charged with theft, they are also facing a felony charge for removing the cremated remains of a baby from the urn.
The family, who was excited to become parents, but six months into their pregnancy, their world came crashing down.
“We had a stillbirth. When she got cremated we talked to the people at the burial place, and they put her inside a bear,” said Keiran Massey who is the father.
The Massey’s took the bear to Kennestone Hospital for emotional support. Kieran’s wife was there for treatment. The bear was gone when she got out of the shower.
Hospital staff found the bear inside of a trash can the same day, but the urn was gone.
“I was upset, shocked, everything. We cried all night that night honestly, just thinking about everything,” said Mr. Massey
Police think someone stole the bear while the Massey’s sheets were being changed. According to the arrest warrant, the Frederics were working in the laundry room at the hospital the same day. The incident occurred in January, but the Frederics were recently arrested and charged, and both bonded out.
“I’m feeling very peaceful right now. A bunch of stuff came off my shoulders knowing that they were arrested,” said Mr. Massey
Police were able to find the urn and return it to the Massey’s, but the ashes are gone.
